The fight against pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is continuing to gain strength, with every square added to the Sounds of Pertussis Protection Quilt.
NASCAR® Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon and his wife, model Ingrid Vandebosch, kicked off the campaign to help protect babies against whooping cough by creating the quilt's centermost square.
Since then, communities have pulled together to create squares and weave their memories into the story of how we are working to help protect adults and babies against this serious disease!
How we're doing: A fabric version of the Sounds of Pertussis Protection Quilt was unveiled at the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital in Concord, North Carolina, on October 17. The Quilt was created from more than 2,300 digital quilt squares submitted by people nationwide who logged onto SoundsofPertussis.com to help raise pertussis awareness. Mom, Felicia Dube, helped reveal the Quilt, in a tribute to her son, Carter, who died of pertussis last year at just 7 weeks old.
Whooping cough is tricky — parents often don't know they have it, and it can easily be passed onto their children. By getting vaccinated with an adult Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis) booster vaccine, adults can help protect themselves against pertussis so they don't get sick and spread the disease to the babies in their lives.
There's still time to help: Create your own square for the online version of the Sounds of Pertussis Protection Quilt. For each square added to the digital Quilt, Sanofi Pasteur will donate $1 to the March of Dimes (up to $10,000).

Team Tellez

Message from the Team Captain:

Participating in the March for Babies is an event that hits close to home for me and my family. On April 13th, 2005 I gave birth to twin girls, Alyssa & Arianna at 26 weeks gestation. Each of the girls weighed approximately only 2 lbs. Sadly, Alyssa passed away suddenly from an infection at 41days old. My other daughter, Arianna spent about 3 long months in the NICU before coming home. It had been the most difficult time in our lives and the pain of losing a child never goes away. We walk in memory of Alyssa and in honor of Arianna. We hope to raise enough money and awareness so we can help prevent another family from experiencing this kind of heartache and pain. All babies deserve a healthy start!
The money we raise for March for Babies will support lifesaving research, services, education and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start.
This is our fourth year participating as "Team Tellez". We have been one of the top family teams in Bergen County to raise money for the March of Dimes. Please support our team by making a donation or joining our team to walk.
Join us in the walk that helps all moms and babies. Thank you!!

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Funds raised in March for Babies support research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And they will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.

That time is quickly approaching for the March of Dimes, "March for Babies" walk. This years walk is on Sunday, May 1st at Darlington Park in Mahwah.
Please join me in this wonderful event that is so near and dear to my heart. Click on the link below to join Team Tellez and walk with us for such a worthy cause. I know times are tough for many of us, but any donation or fundraising that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.

We will also be doing a Zumba fundraiser on April 10th at the Westwood Elks. More details to follow =)

Thanks for your love and support!

As a Mom and former member of the nonprofit/healthcare field, I have been keeping my eyes open to see if I might find another blog/site dealing with a family that needs help. A family that's been dealt a not-so-great hand, and contribution would be appreciated and VERY needed.
I found it.  Ty Louis Campbell was diagnosed on August 11, 2010 with a rare cancer called Chordoma which caused a tumor at the base of his skull.  Since then, he has spent countless hours in and out of hospitals, and his family has established a trust to help pay for medical expenses.
Check out his blog at http://tylouis.blogspot.com/ read about this AMAZING family, and help out if you can....
